About us
The Amsterdam Music Theatre
Besides productions by the resident companies, The Amsterdam Music Theatre also presents productions by companies from the Netherlands and abroad and has played host to some very great artists and companies, such as the Martha Graham Dance Company, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, the Ballet Gulbenkian and the Batsheva Dance Company, as well as world-famous singers like Leonard Cohen, Tracey Chapman, Neil Young, Paolo Conte, Sonny Rollins, David Byrne, Björk and Marianne Faithfull. Over the seasons, The Amsterdam Music Theatre has presented the breathtaking guest productions of Robert Wilson, the subdued yet energetic dance productions of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and the dizzying steps of the dancers of La La Human Steps, among others.
Every season, Nederlands Dans Theater I is a guest in the theatre, with three full-length programmes.
Alongside the presentation of world-class productions, The Amsterdam Music Theatre also takes on the social responsibility of organising educational programmes for children, young people, students and adults.
The Education Department of The Amsterdam Music Theatre organises introductions to the performances of The Amsterdam Music Theatre, the Dutch National Ballet and De Nederlandse Opera, as well as projects and workshops based on these performances.
Productions to which young people can relate are selected from the range presented in the theatre. Besides projects for primary school pupils and secondary school pupils taking arts courses, there are training courses for teachers from primary and secondary schools.
